Then you'll have to walk back across the street to the Arch trail head. ![]() If all the parking spots around the campground are full you can park along the road to enter and even on the side of the main road (try not to disturb shrubbery) but the park would prefer if you use the Twin Tanks Parking lot which is a little farther toward Park blvd. In the campground, there is some unlabeled parking just past the restrooms and then as you continue to drive through the campground keep an eye out for the area that has 2 (new) handicap parking spaces (on the left) - There are two parking spots next to the handicap parking. (I posted a picture and more on my March 2018 review.) Have fun! P.S. Your reward will be a second virtually unknown arch. (In effect, it's behind the main arch.) If you don't mind doing some scrambling /easy bouldering then go through the wash. Now as you head back, if you detour to your left, you will find a wash, this wash is filled with boulders and parallels the white tank campground. Just keep walking toward the mountains and you will find it. You are looking for - big boulders sitting on top of big flat boulders. 1 Ryan Mountain 2 Skull Rock & Split Rock loop 3 Panorama Loop & Warren Peak 4 Fortynine Palms Oasis 5 Willow Hole 6 Arch Rock 7 Hidden. The next sign on the trail is "Dikes" and the heart is to the right at about 3pm. A boulder bigger than the heart is behind the heart rock so from a distance they kind of blend together. With four of us looking, 3 of us could see it but one person couldn't, even when we pointed. Carefully scan the horizon look for the big round looking giant boulders on top of the large flat boulders - you are looking for a giant heart rock in the distance. Look to the right of the sign - you'll be looking at the heart rock in the distance. 37 miles and below that it has arrows pointing to California Riding and Hiking Trail, Twin Tanks Parking area and Arch Rock. To find the big heart rock, as you walk on the trail that leads to the famous arch, you will come to a sign that reads: Arch Rock Nature Trail. If you've heard about the "heart" rock - this is where it's at. I posted a picture - depending on the angle you're looking at it, it could be easy to miss that it's an arch. Behind the main arch is a giant boulder field, like a wash of boulders where you'll find another (virtually unknown) smaller arch. Once you pass the arch, snoop around - there is a giant round boulder hanging in the center of a vertical rock - like Indiana Jones.
